Mindcrime

mindcrime1This might be the first spam blog entry in the history of the Road From Madness. Anways, I thought maybe I should push a bit for the sequel to the 1988 masterpiece by the name of “Operation: Mindcrime”. About three weeks ago Queensrÿche released “Operation: Mindcrime II” and if I hated it at first listen I have somewhat grown to love it by now, I think.

The first album left us with Nicki being held in custody – the prime suspect of a large number of killings. 18 years later Nicki is being released from prison and the only thing on his mind is finding the man who made his life a living hell – his arch nemesis Dr X.

I would like to say that “Operation: Mindcrime” is the single most important piece of art for me.

It made me think the way I do about life and about religion and money, sex, power… even love. So even though the follow-up will never reach as high as the first album (which I grew to love some 16 years ago), it is still a fine example of free thinking, integrity and sober, non-f***ed up rock’n'roll.

I dare even say that there are a couple of songs good enough to fit on the first piece. As a whole I’m not sure yet. I’ll give it some 16 or 18 years. But I know allready that songs like “Fear City Slide” and “The Hands” will be favorites for the rest of my life.

Some people will never understand why art and music play such a big part in ones life. This is why. This is what I lay awake and think of in the middle of the night. This is so freakin’ cool. I wish it was for everyone to discover.
